Program Options

Construction Management: This emphasis mixes business classes with foundational construction classes like construction safety and quality and project management.
Entrepreneurship: This emphasis will encourage you to add innovation value to an existing organization, and will equip you with the tools to start your own nonprofit or for-profit organization in the future.
Finance: With an emphasis in finance, you will become more comfortable with areas like tax laws, Excel, investments, and risk management.
General: Get a foundation in business, choosing from several electives in business administration and economics.
Human Resource Management: When you study human resources, you will gain knowledge about staffing and recruitment, organizational development, payroll, and more.
Information Systems: In this emphasis you will take a mixture of business administration and computer science courses. Get an introduction to programming, information systems, database systems design, and more.
International Business: In addition to your general business courses, you'll also learn about global economic development, international relations, and challenges and considerations that come with doing business across national boundaries.
Management: Gain leadership skills and learn about organizational behavior with classes focused on human resources, project management, production and operations management, and more.
Marketing: Learn about strategic planning and implementation in marketing, personal selling, advertising, public relations, and many other facets of the marketing world.
Office Management: In this emphasis you will learn about records management, document formatting, efficient office administration looking at teams in the workplace including relationships and communication, and procedures, travel planning, and more.
Public Administration: This program will help you to understand the American political process, state and local politics, public service, basic not-for-profit-accounting, and public policy. Following graduation, you can also consider our Master of Public Administration program.

- At Dordt, we offer majors in business, accounting, and economics. You can choose do double major, or minor in these options picking the combination that's best for you. You can also choose to pair it with a major in an area like computer science or art.
- Our two-year administrative assistant degree prepares students for administrative support positions in any business.
- Our business education major combines education and business courses to prepare education majors who will teach high school accounting, business, economics, office procedures, and marketing courses.

The Dordt business and education departments have teamed up to become a fully certified Center for Economic Education (CEE) in Iowa. Dordt hopes to increase economic and financial literacy for students in the area.
Get involved through an internship with a business locally or elsewhere—taking learning outside the classroom is a unique way for you to explore your career options, see corporate culture in real-time environment, and gain necessary practical experience to amplify classroom learning.
- Roughly 90 percent of our students participate in an internship. The business department averages more than 65 internships per year. Students may participate in a variety of local, national, or international internships. The Chicago Semester Program and the European Studies Program (SPICE) are just some options.
- Our interns have handled an enormous variety of tasks and projects, including preparing income tax returns, arranging press releases, working with payroll, developing marketing questionnaires, cataloging museum items, and more.
- We dedicate a large portion of one faculty member's time to internship placement and supervision. Our partnership with Dordt's Career Development Center, has led to a long-term business and accounting job placement rate above 95 percent for Dordt graduates with degrees in these fields.

Dordt business majors have gone on to work in a variety of positions. From marketing at a hospital, to plant manager at a large corporation, to working as an actuary, our students are ready for the work force.
