Dordt Senior to Present Art Exhibit "Moments"

Senior Emma Bakker to present art exhibit "Moments"

Art major Emma Bakker will showcase her senior art exhibit titled “Moments” in Dordt University’s Campus Center Art Gallery from April 19 to May 7. An artist reception will be held on Monday, April 26 from 5-7 p.m.

The show will display a variety of portraits showing snapshots of friends and family that have had an impact on Bakker’s college experience over the last four years.

Bakker studies art with a pre-architectural design emphasis. Bakker values the joy she finds in doing art.

“It’s a fun way for me to relax my mind and I believe it is an outlet for expression,” says Bakker. “You can see so much of a person’s style through their art, and art can be so many things. Whether its functional or not, I appreciate design everywhere and love seeing how art and design can transform spaces or buildings or cities.”

She also appreciates how Dordt’s art program allows students to express themselves.

“There are such a variety of courses and they always encourage you to try new things and embrace your ideas,” says Bakker. “The faculty also have such great wisdom to share, making me more confident in my abilities and what I could do with art in the future.”

As an institution of higher education committed to the Reformed Christian perspective, Dordt University equips students, faculty, alumni, and the broader community to work toward Christ-centered renewal in all aspects of contemporary life.
