Dordt University sophomore, Josiah Vos, to give piano recital
Josiah Vos, a sophomore studying mathematics and music: pedagogy and performance at Dordt University, will give a piano recital on Saturday, September 6 in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.
Week of Welcome starts this weekend! We can't wait to welcome you to campus.
Chadd Caldwell has joined Dordt University’s faculty as associate professor of art and design.
Caldwell has rich experience and knowledge in the intersection of art and faith, combining his degrees in art, painting, and biblical studies. Most recently, he served as an associate professor of art at Southwest Baptist University.
“My art training has taught me how to make drawings and paintings on a technical level. My biblical studies training has helped me develop an understanding of the purpose of our art,” says Caldwell.
Vaughn Donahue, instructor of art and design at Dordt, looks forward to the way Caldwell will enrich the Art and Design program at Dordt. “He brings decades of experience to the Art & Design program as a practicing artist and educator,” explains Donahue. “His studio courses include both drawing and painting where so much foundational technique and theory are put into practice. Our students have a wonderful opportunity to learn from someone who takes the time to not only teach the 'how' in his studio, but also the 'why' in the skills they build.”
“It's one thing to understand how to apply charcoal to paper or paint to canvas, but Caldwell goes further to teach why the methods work and impact the finished piece. It opens our students to wonderful and creative potential,” adds Donahue.
Drawn to Dordt’s Reformed Christian perspective and an emphasis on the value of human life and flourishing, Caldwell is eager to begin helping students gain a deep appreciation for the meaning of art. “I look forward to helping students make beautiful and significant art and advocating for the arts within the sector of the Christian community, helping to enrich the lives of those in the church and surrounding communities,” says Caldwell.
In his free time, Caldwell enjoys “simply doing life” with his wife and two children. Whether adventuring with his son or making art and cooking with his daughter, these experiences are among his greatest joys.
