The art exhibit “Super Fascia,” featuring sculptural and flat work by Professor of Art and Design David Platter, is currently on display in the Campus Center Art Gallery at Dordt University.

There will be an artist reception on Tuesday, February 6 from 7 – 8 p.m., with an artist talk at 7:15 p.m.

“Super Fascia is a long-form investigation on a variety of ways visual images influence, captivate, and alter the human experience,” says Platter. “With works spanning 18 years, this exhibit explores our relationship with surface, image, and the impact visual perception has on belief, memory, imagination, space, and time.”

The exhibit includes sculptural and flat work ranging in materials from plastic, resin, stainless steel, aluminum, carbon steel, cedar, acrylic paint, charcoal, and graphite. The variety of mediums highlights Platter’s passion for material exploration, process learning, and interest in celebrating the dynamics of existing as physical beings with imaginative spirits.

“Super Fascia” will be on display from January 15 – February 27.

A working studio artist and educator, Platter has taught studio art at the University of Kansas, Emporia State University, MidAmerica Nazarene University, Southwest Baptist University, and, most recently, at Dordt University. He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Kansas with distinction as an Outstanding Achievement Award recipient from the International Sculpture Center. His work is included in more than 40 public and private collections around the world. He has collaborated with civic and religious leaders from across the United States, Switzerland, France, Egypt, and Israel / Palestine in efforts to foster meaningful discourse and cross-cultural activity.
