Art

Leap of Faith

A picture of Hope Kramer

Hope has always loved art, but she worried that it was not practical as a career. However, during her first year at Dordt, she felt God calling her to pursue art. She fought this calling, but God continued placing art on her heart.

“I joined the Art and Design program as a sophomore.” she says. “It was a leap of faith that I am so glad I took, and I've never looked back. God has provided for me in this path more than I ever could have imagined.”

During her time at Dordt, Hope had many opportunities to meet people and further her studies. She played on the volleyball team for three years, which helped her get connected on campus right away. Hope also worked at many internships that equipped her with invaluable skills and experiences in the art and design field.

“I had an internship at A&I Products in Rock Valley one summer as a photographer and an internship in the Advancement Office at Dordt the following summer,” she shares. “I put together the Signet as a Senior, and I was able to work on some cool collaborative art projects with my Senior Seminar class.”

Immediately after graduating, Hope worked as an intern at Staples Promotional Products. Thanks to the experience from her previous design internships, Hope was promoted to a full-time position within three months. Now, she works as the Art Director at the company. She plans to stay there as long as God calls her to be there.

Beyond her vocational calling, Hope is thankful for Dordt’s impact on her identity and growth. Dordt is a place that will challenge you and help you discover who you are in God’s world. It will help you develop skills, build friendships, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

“Coming out of high school, I knew what I believed and who I wanted to be, but Dordt helped me grow this and solidify that mindset of being a servant in God's Kingdom. I have developed such a strong base of faith that I feel confident being a Christian wherever God places me. I am excited to see how God uses me to impact the lives of everyone I meet.”
