Marco den Toom to give recital and masterclasses as part of Dordt University's Joan Ringerwole Organ Recital Series

As part of the Joan Ringerwole Organ Recital Series, Dordt University will welcome Marco den Toom of Kampen, The Netherlands to campus on Friday, September 5 and Saturday, September 6.

Dordt University will welcome Marco den Toom, organist, composer, and conductor, from Kampen, The Netherlands, as part of the Joan Ringerwole Organ Recital Series. Events include the following: An Organ Recital on Friday, September 5, 2025, 7:00 p.m.; a Masterclass on Improvisation, Friday, September 5, 3:10 p.m., and a Masterclass on Romantic Organ Repertoire, Saturday, September 6, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.

His concert on September 5th will include an organ improvisation and a variety of organ pieces including Bach, Guilmant, a Piazzolla transcription, and several of his choral works featuring the Community Choir, comprised of community members and Dordt students.

Den Toom studied organ at the Utrecht Conservatory and with Herman van Vliet, Charles de Wolff, Klaas Jan Mulder and Jacques van Oortmerssen. Soon after his professional training, he built up a career as an independent musician. As part of his mission, he has developed into a musically versatile artist who seeks to promote and popularize the organ through his performances at home and abroad.

He has composed two major oratorios (“Jesus on Earth” and “Joseph”) and many solos for organ (including “A Choral Book with the Psalms” and “Toccata Ruisseau”); he arranges existing music, records for radio, TV, CD and DVD (often with choirs), and maintains an active recital schedule. He is conductor of the large Christian mixed choir “Jubilate Deo” from Woudenberg and a sought-after accompanist for choirs and instrumentalists. His solo organ albums include recordings from Kampen (Bovenkerk), The Hague (Evangelical Lutheran Church), Dudelange (Saint-Martin), Kevelaer (Mariabasilika) and Paris (Saint-Eustache).

Additionally, den Toom has served as co-lecturer and musical ambassador of the large Van den Heuvel organ in Katwijk aan Zee, The Netherlands, and is currently titular organist at the Bovenkerk in Kampen, The Netherlands, where he is the player and ambassador of the world-famous four-manual Hinsz organ (1743) and the Reil choir organ (1999). In this capacity, he gives numerous concerts and inspirational sessions on church musicianship for groups of organists from throughout the country.

In addition to his performing schedule, he maintains an active YouTube channel, where he takes his audiences on a personal and often playful journey into his musical world, full of humor, passion, emotion, energy, sensitivity, creativity, and personal faith.

Den Toom’s performance is part of the Joan Ringerwole Organ Recital Series, which seeks to promote the organ and its repertoire for the musical education and enjoyment of students, alumni, and the community by bringing celebrated artists to Dordt University. All events will take place in the B.J. Haan Auditorium and are open for the public to attend.
