Dordt University’s music department to host Honors Recital featuring scholarship recipients

Dordt University invites the community to attend the Music Department's annual Honors Recital on Friday, September 25 at the BJ Hann Auditorium at 3:10 p.m. This free-to-the-public event will feature Dordt student musicians who have received named scholarships.

The recital will include a wide variety of performances such as vocal, instrumental, and keyboard music. There will be solo performances by named scholarship recipients from both the underclassmen and upperclassmen classes. These students were selected by Dordt’s Music Faculty, honoring Dordt University music department donors.

The performers include:

• Andrew Chesebro (senior, organ) – John & Reona Reinsma Organ Scholarship, Stan & Nancy Speer Music Education Scholarship
• Carter Webb (freshman, baritone) – Den Besten Vocal Music Scholarship
• Jessica Wielenga (freshman, flute) – Den Besten Instrumental Music Scholarship
• Sophia Schleicher (freshman, soprano) – LEAH Music Scholarship
• Adalade Ochsner (freshman, alto saxophone) – Dordt Future Music Educators Scholarship
• Willem Bruin (sophomore, tenor) – Steensma Music Scholarship, Robert & Lois Vermeer Music Education Scholarship
• Leah Hoffman (sophomore, viola) – Olivier Music Scholarship
• Mercea Rediger (senior, soprano) – Bouwkamp Music Scholarship
• Brielle Clapp (senior, trumpet, piano) – 4 Lives Bones Scholarship
• Josiah Vos (junior, piano) Dordt University Music Donors Scholarship

“The annual Honors Recital is an opportunity for the Dordt music department to showcase some of its most talented and polished student performers who have received a named music scholarship generously provided by a patron of Dordt music,” says Dr. Ryan Smit, Director of Choral Activities at Dordt. “While an emphasis is placed on featuring some of the very best freshman musicians, advanced upperclassmen are also included on the program. Community members who attend will enjoy a wide variety of excellent vocal, instrumental, and keyboard performances.”
