Dordt University opens applications for the 2026 Verberg Prize

Dordt University is now accepting applications for the 2026 Lambertus Verberg Prize for Excellence in Kuyperian Scholarship, one of the university’s most significant academic awards.

The Lambertus Verberg Prize, established through a gift from Rimmer and Ruth de Vries in memory of Rimmer’s great-grandfather who settled in Sioux Center in the 1890s, recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional engagement with the Reformed tradition—particularly the work of theologian Abraham Kuyper—while applying this tradition to contemporary issues in innovative and faithful ways. The first-place recipient will receive a $15,000 one-year scholarship, and the second-place recipient will receive a $10,000 one-year scholarship. 

The scholarship is open to current students in their sophomore through senior year at Dordt. To apply for the scholarship, students must submit a 3,500-word scholarly essay that engages with theologian Abraham Kuyper as a primary source and identifies a contemporary issue. The deadline for submissions is February 15, 2027.

Applicants are invited to connect with Donald Roth, co-director of the Kuyper Honors Program, with questions or help with formulating ideas and reviewing drafts of essays. The library has also created a libguide for this competition available here.
