Courtney Joiner, a senior from Orange City, Iowa, majoring in music and computer science at Dordt University, will present a clarinet recital on Saturday, November 15, at 3 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.
Blending contemporary and historical music, Joiner’s recital will begin with a light, expressive piece with operatic themes. “The last half of the program moves away from this romantic style and into a more meditative posture,” Joiner explains.
“Eternal Garden,” composed by David Maslanka, challenges listeners “to be fully present in the moment, mirroring the practice of meditation,” Joiner says. Adjunct music tutor Pam De Haan and Tori Ensink, a senior studying education, will accompany Joiner.
