Dordt ranks among top Christian colleges nationally in 2027 Niche Rankings

Dordt University has been recognized as a leading institution in the 2027 Niche College Rankings, securing the number one spot for “Best Christian Colleges in Iowa” and ranking 18th out of 335 institutions for “Best Christian Colleges in America.”

The annual rankings by Niche are based on a rigorous analysis of academic, admissions, financial, and student-life data from the U.S. Department of Education, alongside millions of reviews from students and alumni. In addition to its top Christian college designations, Dordt ranked #5 out of 42 colleges in Iowa and earned a spot in the top 13% of colleges nationwide.

“What makes the Niche ranking especially meaningful is that it combines objective data with feedback from students and others who have actually experienced these institutions,” says Greg Van Dyke, vice president for admissions at Dordt. “We can say a lot of great things about Dordt, but it carries additional weight when students and families affirm that the experience we promise is the experience they actually have.”

This sentiment is echoed by how an impressive 87.2% of last year’s freshmen returned to Dordt for their sophomore year—nearly nine out of 10. This is the eighth consecutive year Dordt’s freshmen-to-sophomore retention rate has exceeded 80%, which is a rarity among colleges and universities. 

The 2027 report also highlighted Dordt’s performance in several other categories, including:

• #2 Best Private University in Iowa
• #2 Best College with No Application Fee in Iowa
• #2 Best Small College in Iowa
• #74 Best Small College in America (out of 935)

For Dordt, these rankings serve as evidence of the university’s ongoing commitment to its mission of providing a Christ-centered education that prepares students for lives of faithful service.

“At Dordt, our Christian faith isn’t something we simply add to the college experience; our goal is for it to permeate everything we do,” says Van Dyke. “Ultimately, we want students to leave Dordt prepared for a career, but even more importantly, prepared to live lives of faithful service and calling. It’s encouraging when rankings like Niche affirm the quality of that experience.”

Van Dyke notes that while rankings are a helpful tool for families, they are just one piece of the puzzle. “Rankings certainly shouldn’t be the only factor in choosing a college, but they provide helpful external validation as families consider academic quality, student experience, outcomes, and overall fit,” he says. “When a university consistently performs well across credible rankings, I think that’s worth paying attention to.”
