Women's Basketball At Home Saturday

The Dordt Defender women’s basketball team will host Midland at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 22.
The Midland Warriors are 8-12 overall and 3-9 in league play with wins over the College of Saint Mary, Mount Marty and Dordt. The Warriors are coming off a win over Mount Marty on January 19 that stopped a four game losing streak that began on January 5. The Warriors are 2-4 in their games in 2022.
Midland is getting outscored 71-66 and outrebounded 40-35. Midland converts 37 percent of its field goals while teams are making 44 percent. Midland relies heavily on the three-point shot and makes 28 percent and well over 35 percent of its field goal attempts are three-point shots.
Peyton Wingert scores 16.9 points per game with 7.8 rebounds and Erin Prusa is scoring 9.9 points per game with 5.8 rebounds. Wingert has made 22 three-point shots while Kennedy Darner is the leader in made long shots with 45 and she is averaging 7.8 points per game and Wingert is the leader in assists with 3.5 per game and she tops the team with 25 steals in 20 games played.
The Defender women are 15-6 this season and 8-5 in league play and have won eight games in a row and six games in a row in the league.
Dordt is outscoring teams 74-67 and outrebound teams 40-35. The Defenders also convert 42 percent of their field goals while holding teams to 39 percent.
Ashtyn Veerbeek scores 18 points per game with 9.2 rebounds and makes 50 percent of her field goals and blocks three shots a game. Bailey Beckman’s 11.7 points per game is net and she has made a team high 37 three-point baskets. Karly Gustafson’s scoring average is 11.2 points per game with 7.9 rebounds and Janie Schoonhoven is averaging 8.3 points per game to go with six rebounds. Macey Nielson and Hayden Heimensen have made 26 and 24 three-point shots respectively for a team that has made 31 percent of its three-point shots.
Midland beat Mount Marty on Wednesday night after taking an 18-9 lead after one quarter and secured a 34-19 halftime lead. The Lancers outscored the Warriors 33-29 in the second half but couldn’t make up the ground. Midland converted 43 percent of its field goals and had a 33-27 rebounding advantage. Peyton Wingert scored 21 and Erin Prusa added 12 with 10 rebounds.
Dordt beat the College of Saint Mary in overtime on Wednesday night 68-63 in a game that was tied 53-53 at the end of regulation. Gustafson scored 19 points and had 12 rebounds with three assists and Bailey Beckman scored 17 and made 9-10 free throws.
Midland overcame a 66-61 deficit to start the third quarter and beat Dordt 87-81 on December 4 in Fremont, Nebraska. Veerbeek scored 30 and had 10 rebounds with five assists and Schoonhoven had 21 with nine rebounds. Wingert led Midland with 26 and Shepard added 21 for the Warriors and Prusa had seven rebounds to go with 14 points.
