The Dordt University Music Department is hosting four upcoming Christmas concerts in December.
A Christmas Choral Concert will be held on Friday, December 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. This concert will feature Bella Voce women’s chorus, Canons of Dordt men’s chorus, and Concert Choir. The choirs will share a wide range of repertoire contemplating and celebrating the coming of Christ in a unique and beautiful way. Joining the choirs will be several instrumental collaborators including piano, organ, percussion, and brass quintet. The concert will also be available via livestream.
The Dordt University Chorale will present “A Service of Lessons and Carols” on Sunday, December 5 at 8 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. Come and worship with the Chorale as they celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ through song. Lessons from Scripture will alternate with performed anthems and congregational carol singing. The Chorale will be joined by theatre, communication, and music faculty members and an array of accompanying instruments: piano, organ, brass quintet, harp, and percussion. The concert will also be available via livestream.
The Dordt University bands will present their final concert of the semester on Tuesday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. For this concert we will welcome guest conductor Dr. Stephen Gage, retired Youngstown State University Directors of Band and elected member of the American Bandmasters Association. Dr. Gage will join the Campus-Community Band by conducting the timeless "Declaration Overture" by Claude T. Smith, as well as joining the Wind Symphony in a performance of the highly challenging "Rocky Point Holiday" by Ron Nelson. The centerpiece of the concert will be the Dordt Wind Symphony presenting the wind band masterpiece "Lincolnshire Posy" by Percy Aldridge Grainger. We also welcome Dr. Allegra Fisher, Sioux Center Christian School Director of Bands and Choirs, to conduct the Campus-Community Band in Frank Ticheli’s "Cajun Folk Songs." As a special treat, presenting their inaugural performance will be the Dordt University Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Dordt Applied Percussion Instructor Andy Baldwin.
The Dordt University Music Department will present a 4th Avenue Jazz and Orchestra concert on Friday, December 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. Featured in the concert will be the 4th Avenue Singers, 4th Avenue Band, and Chamber Orchestra. Come for a relaxed evening of jazzy Christmas songs and carols, big band standards, orchestral compositions, and a variety of collaborations between singers and instruments. The concert will also be available on livestream.
