Hermansen Added To Defender Basketball

(Tuesday, September 28; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Aleah Hermansen, a senior at Audubon High School (Iowa), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender women’s basketball program.  

“Aleah is another great addition to our 2022 class.  She is a fantastic athlete that can score at all three levels.  Her game has continued to improve throughout her high school career.  Aleah is passionate about competition and improving her skills.  She is a great student and plans to enter the Pre-Med program at Dordt.  Aleah embodies the Defender Way and is a fantastic teammate.  We are looking forward to maximizing her God given abilities during her time at Dordt,” said Dordt basketball coach Bill Harmsen. 

Hermansen has been a three-year regular for the Wheelers and averaged 16 points per game last seaon with 4.7 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.3 assists per contest.  She’s claimed Western Iowa All-Conference honors three times; was named the Western Iowa Conference co-player of the year in 2021 and claimed all-region honors three times from the IGCA and twice by the IBCA.  She was a third-team all-state selection after her junior season by the IPSWA.  

Hermansen has scored 1,084 points during her career with 401 rebounds, 170 assists and 204 steals.  She has converted 111 three-point baskets over the course of her career. 

“I chose to commit to Dordt University because once I stepped foot on campus it really felt like home.  The coaching staff at Dordt is incredible and the girls are welcoming. The like to play a fast pace and shoot the ball very well which is the kind of style I like to play.  I am beyond excited to grow as a student-athlete and follower of Christ,” said Hermansen. 

Aleah is the daughter of Jim and Hermanson of Audubon, Iowa.  She plans to enter the pre-Medicine program at Dordt.  

Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA).   

 U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
