Soccer To Play Home Games Under Lights

(Tuesday, August 10; Sioux Center, Iowa) For the first time ever Dordt soccer matches played on campus will be played under lights in the evening.  Through fundraising efforts the Dordt University Soccer Complex has added lights which will be used this season.

“We are excited about the installation of lights at the soccer stadium and are grateful for the donors who rallied around this project.  Playing in the evening will mean less missed class time for our student athletes and will enhance the student-athlete experience, as mid-week evening matches will provide an opportunity for the campus community to better support the soccer teams.  I have no doubt the installation of lights at the soccer facility will help move the Defender soccer programs forward,” said Dordt Director of Athletics Ross Douma.

Local companies Engineering Design Associates (EDA), Ten-Kredit Electric and Van Holland Lawn Service all of Sioux Center and Musco Lighting from Oskaloosa, Iowa, partnered in engineering, wiring and erecting the lights and standards in July.

The first games under the lights will be played on Friday, September 3 starting with a women’s game at 6:00 pm and a men’s game following. The Dordt soccer programs have played their home games at the Dordt Soccer Complex on the southeast edge of campus since 2004.  Prior to that home games were played where the Kuyper Apartments and its parking lot exist.  Dordt’s soccer program has also called the stadium at Open Space Park home during its club seasons and eventual varsity status.

The Dordt Soccer Complex has seen many improvements, the most recent of which was the addition of a pressbox and bleacher seating prior to the 2017 season.
