Langelaar To Join Defender Basketball

(Friday, March 19; Sioux Center, Iowa) Spencer Langelaar, a student at Abbotsford Christian School (British Columbia), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender basketball program.

“We are very excited about having Spencer join our program.  He does a lot of things well on the court and had a really nice senior year.  Spencer is a perfect fit for Dordt, as his family is dedicated to the Defender Way, and has been a part of the Defender community for many years.  We have high hopes for the future development as a player and a man of faith in the next four years,” said Dordt basketball coach Brian Van Haaften.

Langelaar is a 6-0 guard who averaged 13.2 points with 5.1 assists and 4.6 rebounds in 2019-20.  Langelaar’s school has not played basketball this school year.  He was an all-conference choice in 2019-20 wile helping Abbotsford Christian to a conference title and a top-eight finish at the British Columbia Provincial Tournament. He was also a first-team pick by the British Columbia Christian Schools.

Spencer is the son of Mike and Shari Langelaar of Abbotsford, British Columbia.  He’s undecided on a major field of study.

Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA).
