Hockey Set To Conclude Regular Season

Defender hockey is in action on March 19 and 20 in a pair of matches to conclude the regular season. Faceoff on Friday is at 7:00 in Sioux Center while the Saturday game is at scheduled for a 4:30 start.

The Foe…

Iowa State is currently 6-3-1-1 and have outscored teams by a 51-32 margin.

Cooper Bailey has eight goals and five assists this season while Tate Hentz and Clark Krueger each have seven goals and Chris Friemel and Hunter Schultz each have six goals scored.  Drew Pehrson is 3-2-1 this season and has a 3.0 goals allowed average.

The Defenders…

Dordt is 3-2-0-1 at this point with losses to Iowa State on February 12 and 13 and wins over Western Colorado on March 5 and 6 and a victory over Missouri State last weekend.  Dordt played to a 2-2 tie with Missouri State in the second game of the weekend. The Defenders’ Kyle Espenson has seven goals and four assists in the games reported and Sam De Jong also has six goals to go with two assists. Logan Visser and Eil Visscher have five and four goals respectively. Ryan Geirnaert is 3-1 in the pipes and has a 2.90 goals allowed average.

Dordt hosted Missouri State in a pair of games last weekend and won a dramatic 4-3 decision on Friday before playing to a 2-2 tie on Saturday. The win had four different Defenders scoring a goal each and Ryan Geirnaert had 32 saves in goal. Jonah Weems scored both goals for Dordt in the tie and Jaren Brue had two assists. Giernaert secured 40 saves in goal.

The Series…

Dordt is 12-25 against Iowa State including a pair of losses this season by 6-4 and 4-1 decisions.
