Volleyball Hosts Missouri Baptist


Dordt will host Missouri Baptist on Thursday, March 1 at 7:00 in league volleyball play. Missouri Baptist is 12-1 overall and 4-0 in league play. Luka Cajic puts down 4.24 kills per set with a .315 kill efficiency while Steven Rodriguez is averaging 3.73 kills per outing with a .276 kill efficiency. Jack Huizinga puts down 2.3 kills per set for a team that is averaging 12.7 per set. Kyle Foley putting up 10.77 assists per outing while also recording a team high 37 ace serves for the season. Colton Inman is the team leader with 2.78 digs per outing.


Dordt College is 1-8 this season after playing a pair of matches last weekend. Dordt is led by Ben Tiemersma’s 2.69  kills per set and he hits for a .190 kill efficiency. Alex Durbin averages 1.97 kills per set while Tyler Postma puts up 5.90 kills per set. Mark Schussler gets to 2.34 digs per set and Tyler Postma is getting to 1.45 digs per outing. Postma, Durbin and Shavon Barker all average right around a block per set. Dordt records 2.48 points per set off of blocks and 7.38 on kills.


Dordt faced Ottawa on Saturday, February 24 and lost 25-18, 25-16, 25-20.  The Defenders were led by Durbin’s eight kills and Ben Tiemersma had five with Tyler Postma putting up a team high 19 assists. Cobi Jones and Mark Schussler each had five digs and Durbin had three block assists.


Dordt and Missouri Baptist played twice on March 10 due to scheduling challenges with Missouri Baptist winning both matches.


Dordt will travel to Trinity Christian in Palos Heights, Illinois on Friday, March 2 before playing a pair against Robert Morris (Illinois) and Cincinnati Christian on Saturday, March 3.  The Defenders then have a substantial break until their next home contests on March 22, 24 and 27.


Dordt’s conference is well represented in the initial Coaches’ Top 10 Poll released February 6. Missouri Baptist (2), Briar Cliff (3), Park (5) and Ottawa (7) are all in the top-10 of the poll.
