Sioux Center, IA: On Tuesday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m., Dordt’s instrumental ensembles will perform at the college’s B.J. Haan auditorium. The concert will feature three of Dordt’s bands: the Campus-Community Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Band. The Campus-Community Band and Concert Band are conducted by Dr. Bradley Miedema; the Jazz Band is led by Mr. Kevin Linder.
The Concert-Community Band will perform Ticheli’s four-movement suite “Simple Gifts,” which features settings of various Shaker melodies, and Shelley Hanson’s arrangement of Josef Rheinberger’s glorious choral work, “Evening Song” (Abendlied), among others. The Jazz Band will perform a Clifford Brown tune titled Sandy, a tune from the 1960s by Antonio Carlos Jobim titled Wave, and a jazz funk classic titled Chameleon. And the Concert Band will open with Pineapple Poll Suite by Sir Arthur Sullivan, and they will also perform Thomas Knox’s stirring piece “…and grace will lead me home.” This is a beautiful setting of the hymn “Amazing Grace,” which premiered at the memorial service for the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995.
The concert is free and open to the public.
