Men's Volleyball At Briar Cliff Tonight


Dordt will travel to face Briar Cliff on Tuesday, February 6 in a men’s volleyball contest beginning at 7:30.  Results will be posted to and and also at


Briar Cliff is 3-0 overall and 2-0 in league play.  The Chargers have impressive early season wins over Park and          .

Peyton Schirman leads the team with a 4.33 kills per set average and Ivan Trifunovic has a 4.17 average.  Jacob Ewart and Enrique Barajas are both putting up over six assists per set and Noah Marsco-Ayau is getting to 2.92 digs per set. Trifunovic has four service aces this season to top the team.

Briar Cliff is averaging 13.58 kills per set while allowing 11.17. The Chargers have a .302 kill efficiency.


Dordt College is 1-1 this season after opening the season with two matches last week.  Dordt is led by Ben Tiemersma’s 4.13 kills per  set and he hits for a .264 kill efficiency. Alex Durbin and Caleb Brandsma each average 1.88 and 1.0 kills per set while Tyler Postma puts up 6.63 kills per set. Mark Schussler gets to 3.00 digs per set and Tyler Postma is getting to 2.5 digs per outing. Postma, Durbin and Shavon Barker all average over a block per set.


Dordt beat Lindenwood-Belleville 3-2 on Friday night behind 19 kills from Tiemersma and Durbin had 12.  Postma put up 35 assists and had 13 digs along with Schussler.

Briar Cliff beat Park on Saturday 3-1 behind 23 kills by Schirman and 20 from Trifunovic. Barajas and Ewart had 33 and 27 assists each.


Briar Cliff prevailed in a pair of 3-0 decisions last year with the second meeting coming on March 20.  In that match the Defenders were led by Durbin with seven kills and Tiemersma had six. Postma put up 20 assists and Schussler had 18 digs. Ewart led Briar Cliff with nine kills and Barajas had 38 assists and Gothier recorded 16 digs.


Dordt is off until February 16 and 17 when the Defenders travel to Park for four matches.


Dordt’s conference is well represented in the initial Coaches’ Preseason Top 10 Poll. Park (1), Missouri Baptist (3) and  Ottawa (5) are all in the top-5 of the poll which was released on January 9.
