(Wednesday, April 19; Sioux Center, Iowa) Miranda Velgersdyk of Dordt is this week’s Hauff MidAmerica/GPAC Track Athlete-of-the-Week. Velgersdyk, a junior from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, took gold in all three events she participated in at the Red Raider Open.
Velgersdyk won the 400 with a time of 56.01, a NAIA automatic qualifying mark, and also was a part of the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams for the Defenders.
“I’m thrilled for Miranda to be recognized as this week’s athlete-of-the-week. This conference has athletes that are capable of tremendous performances in every meet and these honors do not come easily,” said Dordt College track and field coach Craig Heynen. “Miranda has prepared well for this season and that preparation has paid off. I’m looking forward to the next three weeks to see what she and the rest of this team are capable of.”
Velgersdyk has earned all-GPAC honors 10 times during her track and field program and has twice earned NAIA All-American honors.
Velgersdyk and the Defender track and field team will compete this week at the Sioux City Relays and will compete the following weekend at the Drake Relays.
