Dordt College ends school year with concerts

The last week of classes in the spring semester will be marked with three concerts, all of which are free and open to the public.

The Chamber Orchestra and Jazz Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. on April 25. The Campus-Community Band and Concert Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. on April 28.

The Choral Ensembles will perform their final concert at 7:30 p.m. on April 29. This performance will mark the final concert outgoing choral director Dr. Benjamin Kornelis will conduct at Dordt College. Kornelis has taught at Dordt for 23 years and has directed about 330 concerts and 1,773 different songs in that time.

“I’m trying to let this concert be no different than any of the other roughly 329,” says Kornelis. “As with all others, the music was carefully chosen, hopefully will have been carefully prepared, and in the end, we trust that those who make the effort to come and listen will find something of what they need there—whether that’s comfort, healing, encouragement, joy, delight, etc., and that God would be honored by our laying our musical ‘first fruits’ on his altar.”

All concerts are in the B.J. Haan Auditorium, and a free will offering will be accepted at each.
