Baseball At Waldorf For Non-Conference Twinbill

GAMETIME… Dordt College will travel to Forest City, Iowa to face Waldorf on Tuesday, April 8 starting at 3:00. The doubleheader will consist of two, seven inning games.

SCOUTING REPORT… Waldorf is 4-21 this season and 3-13 in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference. Waldorf’s most recent win is a 6-5 decision over Central Christian College on April 5. The Warriors also swept Central Baptist College and knocked off Graceland for their wins.
Waldorf is batting .228 this season and has scored 70 runs while allowing 214. Derek Breit has a team high .300 batting average with 21 hits and 13 runs scored and 11 runs batted in. Kevin Warnes is batting .271 and Kendrick White is batting .263 and shares team honors with Breit in hits with 21.
Casey Schuermann has two of Waldorf’s four wins and is 2-4 in six appearances and 39 innings pitched. He has struck out 25 batters and has a 6.92 earned run average. Phillip Timm is 1-4 with a 6.39 earned run average.
DEFENDER NOTES… Dordt College is 10-14 this season and 3-5 in the GPAC. The Defenders have been involved in a pair of sweeps in their last two dates, sweeping Concordia and getting swept by Nebraska Wesleyan.
Andy Kollbaum is batting .338 this season and Jake Thayer is batting .333. Thayer has 11 runs batted in and Dane LePlatt is batting .324 with 24 hits, three doubles, three triples and has knocked in 12 runs. Cameron Gingerich tops the team with 27 hits and three doubles. Le Platt, Gingerich, Wapnick and Aaron Parks all have 14 runs scored. Nathan Fraley tops the team with 20 runs scored and leads the team with 12 stolen bases.
Ben Van Kekerix has pitched 34 innings and has a 4.98 earned run average with 32 strikeouts. Josh Van Kekerix has pitched 25 innings with 20 strikeouts. Lucas Carls and Michael Grady have both pitched over 20 innings with 23 and 21 respectively. John Drenten has a 2.76 earned run average in 16 innings pitched and Ben Van Kekerix is 3-0 and Cole Samuelson is 2-1 in five appearances.
THE SERIES… Dordt trails the series 2-0 with the only meetings of these two happening in 2004 in Forest City. Dordt lost the games by scores of 13-3 and 10-6.
LAST TIME… Waldorf split with Central Christian on April 5 as they won game one 6-5 but lost game two 4-2.
Dordt hosted Nebraska Wesleyan on Monday, April 7 and lost a pair of tight contests. Nebraska Wesleyan scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to defeat Dordt College 3-2 in game one of their doubleheader with Dordt in Sioux Center on Monday afternoon.
The Prairie Wolves scored one in the fourth while recording the first hits of the game for Wesleyan against Dordt starter Josh Van Kekerix.
Dordt scored two in the bottom of the inning with Jason Wapnick delivering an rbi single and Nathan Forseth had a fielder’s choice to the right side of the infield that scored Nathan Fraley. Fraley had reached initially on a walk.
A run on two hits in the fifth tied the game for Wesleyan. Dordt had a chance to retake the lead in the fifth inning but the Defenders were retired after loading the bases with one out in the inning. Wesleyan took the lead with a run on one hit in the sixth and Dordt was retired in order in the sixth.
Dordt got a runner on in the seventh inning with two outs but couldn’t move Alex Schoonhoven across from first base.
Dordt outhit the visitors 6-5 and had eight runners stranded to five for the Prairie Wolves.
Andy Kollbaum was 2-3 with two singles and four other players had one single each.
Josh Van Kekerix was the starter and went five innings and allowed two runs on four hits and struck out four. John Drenten took the loss after working the sixth inning and gave up a run on one hit and the run was unearned.
A three run seventh inning provided the winning margin on Monday night in Sioux Center as Nebraska Wesleyan defeated Dordt College 6-3 in GPAC play. The win allowed the visitors a sweep of the doubleheader originally scheduled for Friday, April 4.
Nebraska Wesleyan scored one in the first and another run in the third on a pair of hits and they left two on base. A single run in the fourth inning put Wesleyan ahead 3-0 but the Prairie Wolves missed on a chance to go up even bigger when they again left two runners on base.
Dordt scraped out a run in the fourth inning without virtue of a hit as Nathan Fraley reached on a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a fly out to right field and then scored on an error. Dordt threatened in the fifth but came up empty and after a scoreless top of the sixth Dordt had two runs on four hits to even the score. Jason Wapnick provided a run scoring single to plate Aaron Parks and Cameron Gingerich had a sacrifice fly that got Alex Schoonhoven in.
The Prairie Wolves took advantage of three this and an error to take the lead and Dordt had just one hit over the final three innings in falling 6-3. Dordt did get two base runners in the eighth inning but was retired.
Dordt was outhit 11-7 with seven different Defenders getting a single each. Nathan Forseth went six innings and was charged with five runs on nine hits and a walk and struck out one. Michael Grady pitched two innings and gave up a run and Jeremy Engbers worked a scoreless ninth inning and was charged with one hit.
Nolan Lott, Pete Sitorius and Andrew Toy all had three hits for the Prairie Wolves. Jordan Johnson went six innings and gave up three runs on six hits and secured the win with five strikeouts.
