Program Overview

Providing a strong biblical foundation and workplace skills, Dordt's engineering technology program blends hands-on learning with industry expertise. Choose an emphasis in industrial networks / programming, and you'll learn about networking, digital systems, informational technology, and more.

What You'll Learn

With an emphasis in industrial networks / programming, you'll take classes in computer science and engineering that are all taught from a Christ-centered, biblical perspective. You'll gain a strong understanding of information technology, networking, and digital systems, along with programming know-how.

What You Can Do With An Industrial Networks/Programming Emphasis

There are plenty of opportunities for those who choose to study industrial networks / programming, including:

Manufacturing Engineer

Manufacturing Engineers carry out the duties of developing production issue solutions, operating computer software, and performing cost-benefit analyses.

Help Desk Manager

A Help Desk Manager is responsible for ensuring proper computer operation and resolving user help requests.

Field Engineer

Field Engineers inspect and install different equipment and technologies and make sure everything works correctly and designs are being followed.

Students are required to complete the foundation courses for engineering technology as well as their required industrial networks / programming-specific courses.

Foundation courses

Engineering Technology (B.A.) – Foundation (common to all emphases): Engineering 117 or EGRT 115; Engineering Technology 101, 112, 115, 210, 211, 212, 213, 263, 283; a minimum of seven credits from Engineering Technology 271-276; completion of one of the Engineering Technology (A.S.) emphases.

Computer courses

Engineering 204, Computer Science 109, 115, 116, 120, 204, 205, 215, 315, 319, 270, 340, 331, 390, One course from Mathematics 115, 152, or Statistics 131.

Science and Technology Center

While studying industrial networks / programming, you'll have the opportunity to spend time in Dordt's Science and Technology Center. Informally known as the "Science Building," the Science and Technology Center is home to labs for mechanical engineering, electronics, electrical engineering, and computer-aided design.
