Dr. Ethan Brue

Professor of Engineering

Dr. Ethan Brue is the Dean for Technology and Applied Sciences at Dordt University. He provides leadership for the areas of:

  • Agriculture
  • Agriculture Technology
  • Computer Science
  • Construction Management
  • Engineering
  • Engineering Technology
  • Physics

He also guides the development and implementation of Dordt’s curriculum, including leading the Curriculum and Academic Policies Committee.

A licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of Iowa, Dr. Brue has served as an engineering professor at Dordt since 2000. In addition, he is a co-author of A Christian Field Guide to Technology for Engineers and Designers (Intervarsity Press), which looks at the ethics and norms involved in technology design, biblical themes and passages that relate to technology, and how engineering and technology tap into human dreams for a better world.

His research interests include thermochemical reactor design, the history of science and technology, solar energy engineering, biomass gasification and combustion, and fluidization.

Brue is fueled by the opportunity and privilege of training a new generation of faithful engineers who witness to Christ's coming kingdom through their work as engineers. "My faith is the root of all that I do," says Brue. "It is the motivation, purpose and direction for my professional work and play."
