Haagsma Signs To Play Dordt Basketball
March 10, 2014
(Monday, March 10; Sioux Center, Iowa) Brandon Haagsma, a senior at Valley Christian High School (Arizona), has announced his intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender basketball program.
Haagsma, a 6-5 guard, helped his team to a Division 3 State Championship in 2014 and a runner-up finish in 2013. He averaged 14.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.1 assists and two steals per game while claiming Division 3 Player of the Year honors by the Arizona Basketball Coaches Association.
Haagsma earned first team all-division and all-section honors in 2013 and was a Sports 360 All Arizona All-Academic first team honoree in both football and basketball. He will compete in the Arizona Senior All-Star Game later this year.
“We are pleased to add Brandon to our program,” said Dordt College basketball coach Ross Douma. “Brandon has the ability to stretch defenses with his perimeter shooting and, being the son of a coach, possesses a high basketball IQ. He has enjoyed a great deal of success at Valley Christian and we are excited he will bring his winning ways to Dordt. Brandon is a natural fit for Dordt College and our basketball program.”
Brandon is the son of Myrna and Greg Haagsma of Gilbert, Arizona. Greg coached Valley Christian’s basketball program and is a 1991 graduate of Dordt College. Brandon plans to study exercise science at Dordt College.
Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. Dordt’s athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).
