De Groot Assumes Duties as Dordt College Director of Public Relations and Marketing
August 29, 2001
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa--Mr. Norlan De Groot has taken the position of Director of Public Relations and Marketing Communication at Dordt College. De Groot assumed his new position in July, and is busy with various projects at the onset of a new academic year.
“I’m challenged by the variety of projects that fall within the responsibilities of this position,” says De Groot, “I’m working on everything from developing a new look for our website to creating ads for local and national publications. Each day brings something new.”
De Groot has experience in writing, editing, publishing, and, most recently, teaching English, Bible, and journalism at Mt. Vernon Christian High School in Mt. Vernon, Washington. At Dordt, De Groot’s duties will include maintaining contact with the media, handling advertising and promotional publications, coordinating marketing for the Dordt Press, writing feature articles and special reports that promote Dordt and its mission, and completing various other promotional tasks.
“I’m excited about the many possibilities for extending the scope of Dordt ’s influence throughout the world,” says De Groot, “My goal as the Director of Public Relations and Marketing Communication is not only to help promote the college, but also to help communicate Dordt’s mission of providing insight and developing talents that will sustain lifelong, responsible service in God's Kingdom.”
De Groot is a 1983 graduate of Dordt, earning a degree in communication-journalism. Since then he has earned a Master of Divinity degree from Calvin Seminary and a secondary teaching certification in English education from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. De Groot has helped produce Contact Magazine, has written for several publications, and has been a contributor to KDCR Radio’s Plumbline commentary program.
De Groot replaces Mr. Jim De Young, who accepted a position with the Calvin Christian School System in Minneapolis in June, 2000. De Groot and his wife, Julie (an ’88 Dordt graduate), have two young sons.
