Dekkers Now All-Time Hits Leader

(Monday, April 9; Sioux Center, Iowa)  With a single to leftfield in game two of a doubleheader with Mount Marty on Saturday afternoon, April 7, Travis Dekkers became Dordt College’s all-time baseball hits leader.  The senior from Hawarden, Iowa now has 156 hits over his three-plus seasons at Dordt and passed former teammate Dillon Peters for the record.

Dekkers started the season in sixth all-time and has 33 base hits through 29 games this season.  Dekkers already held the all-time doubles record at Dordt with 39 and ranks second in total bases with 217.  All totaled Dekkers ranks in the top-five in six different offensive categories and he also ranks first in put-outs on defense with 975.

Dekkers has played in 143 out of 145 games during his career and has played in 127 straight games for the Defenders.  The last time Dekkers was not in the Dordt lineup was March 20, 2009, a doubleheader against Doane College.
