Dordt College Concert Band, Chamber Orchestra to Perform

The Dordt College Concert Band and Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Henry Duitman, will present the final concert of their 2003 spring tour on Friday, March 28, 7:30 p.m., at the B. J. Haan Auditorium in Sioux Center. Chamber Orchestra

This year’s spring tour included engagements in Wisconsin, Michigan, Canada, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Indiana.

The Chamber Orchestra’s program includes selections by Fauré, Grieg, Debussy and Vivaldi. The 25 strings of the Chamber Orchestra will be joined by 16 wind players from the Concert Band for some of these numbers.

Cello soloist with the orchestra, Coralin Davelaar, will perform “Allegro Appasionato” by Camille Saint-Saëns, while horn soloist, Carolyn Langley, will be featured with the Concert Band in an arrangement of “Villanelle” by Paul Dukas.

The performance of the 53-member Concert Band will include a grouping of music for Lent and a second grouping of music from the British Isles, with music by Julie Giroux, Percy Grainger, and Malcolm Arnold.

Admission to the concert is free, with a free-will donation received to help defray tour expenses.

Dordt College is a Christian, liberal arts college that offers nearly 50 programs of study to more than 1,300 students from the United States, Canada and several foreign countries. Dordt’s choral and instrumental music ensembles go on tour annually in various parts of the United States and Canada.
