Emily Hageman holds vocal recital at Dordt College

February 18, 2012

Dordt College senior and vocalist Emily Hageman will present a vocal recital Saturday, February 25, at 3 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. A reception will follow.

Hageman, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, will perform a variety of pieces, many of which will be performed with other students. “I am most excited about the sheer number of people who are assisting me in the recital,” said Hageman. “There are several pieces that will be a lot of fun to watch including two vocal trios, a duet, and a piece with chamber instruments in a Baroque-style. I’m especially thrilled about my musical theater set, which is dedicated to my favorite composer, Stephen Sondheim.”

Other participants include instrumentalists Nicole Low (Orange City, Iowa) on oboe, Jason Kornelis (Sioux Center, Iowa) on cello, and Krista De Vries (Orange City) and Brian De Young (Sioux Center) as piano accompanists. Vocalists include bass Brian De Young, soprano Rachel Kooiman (Doon, Iowa), soprano Mia Kornelis (Sioux Center), and tenor Eric Spoelstra (San Marcos, Calif.).

Hageman is majoring in secondary choral music education. She is a three-time finalist in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition, and is the recipient of the John and Frances Bonnema Memorial Music Scholarship at Dordt College.
