February 20, 2003

Dordt College has been named the business recipient of the 2003 Sioux Center Community Service Award. The award was presented at a luncheon and ceremony held Thursday, Feb. 13, at the city office. In naming Dordt College for this award, the following was noted: Community Service Award

“The vitality a college adds to a community is immeasurable and Dordt College is no exception. The city’s relationship with Dordt is coveted by other communities and the city values this relationship highly. The collaboration through joint use agreements is just one example of this cooperation.

“Since 1955, the college has been expanding and bettering their campus for its students, faculty and the community. The recreation center is an impressive facility that provides fitness and recreation opportunities to not only the campus, but also the entire community. This 120,000 square foot complex includes a gymnastics room built in cooperation with the city.

“Dordt College’s cooperative efforts have also made the All Seasons Center a reality. If it weren’t for its commitment to this community and a vision for the future, this would never have been possible.”

Most recently the completion of the Campus Center this fall will provide additional and expanded facilities for community and business activities, such as conferences, receptions, banquets, meetings and reunions.

“The city must also recognize Dordt for its RAGBRAI efforts. More than once Dordt has opened its doors for lodging, showers and entertainment for these visitors. Dordt’s staff and facilities helped make this event a success.
