Milton Kuyers talks business at Dordt Nov. 7

October 31, 2011

Business savvy CEO and chairman of GMK Companies Milton Kuyers is sharing his unique business expertise and Christian perspective at Dordt College on Monday, November 7, as part of the First Mondays Speaker Series.

GMK Companies is a group of 15 companies that specialize in manufacturing, agribusiness, import/export, telecommunications, distribution, and more. GMK Companies has locations on three continents, but its headquarters are located in Kuyers’ hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

“Kuyers challenges Christians to see business as every bit a kingdom calling as ministry, missions, or teaching,” says Erik Hoekstra, provost of Dordt College. “The context may be different, but the goals are the same: to live in thankful service to God for his love through Jesus Christ.”

In the first of his two lectures, Kuyers will reflect on his years of business ventures and share his expertise in “Living and Learning through Life: A Businessman’s Story.” This presentation will take place in the B.J. Haan Auditorium at 11 a.m.

His second presentation, “What I Wish My Friends and My Pastor Knew about Me as a Business Person,” will take place Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Science and Technology Center (SB 101). Both presentations are free and open to the public.

In addition to his work with GMK Companies, Kuyers has served on the boards of Au Sable Institute, Christian Stewardship Foundation, and St. Charles Youth and Family Services of Milwaukee. Kuyers was a founding board member of Partners Worldwide. He has also served as chairperson of the Calvin College board of trustees and was co-chairperson of the Calvin Capital Fund campaign. A graduate of Calvin College and the University of Michigan Business School, Kuyers has taught interim business courses at Calvin College.

Kuyers is the third speaker in the 2011-12 First Mondays Speaker Series, a lecture series that brings biblically based thinkers, writers, and opinion leaders to Dordt College. The First Mondays Speaker Series is designed to promote Dordt’s mission by providing an enriching academic experience to students, alumni, and the broader community so that they may work effectively toward Christ-centered renewal.
