Dordt College celebrates Alumni Weekend

Dordt College is going Green – that is, the college is hosting legendary Christian recording artist Steve Green in concert – this Alumni Weekend. The annual celebration will be held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16 and 17.

Alumni are invited to a free networking event featuring guest speaker Dr. James Verbrugge, a Dordt College alumnus (1960 graduate). The breakfast will be held in the Campus Center on Friday at 6:45 a.m. Verbrugge’s areas of expertise are venture capital and entrepreneurial finance, risk management in financial institutions, and financial markets and institutions. He will present “The Federal Fiscal Mess: Causes, Consequences, and Possible Solutions,” an extremely relevant topic in our current economic and political climate.
One of the most entertaining concerts of the academic year is the annual Pops Concert featuring Dordt College Bands and Orchestra in costume. This year’s theme is The Wonderful World of Disney. The concert begins at 7 p.m., Friday, in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.
Come, hear, and honor the 2011 Distinguished Alumni honorees with a great meal. This year’s honorees are Marlys (De Witt) Popma (1978 graduate), Dr. James Verbrugge (’60), and Rev. John A. Rozeboom (’62). Find more about the honorees.
The Dordt College Business Club is sponsoring a 9-hole golf tournament on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Sioux Center Ridge Golf Club. The pancake breakfast will be held at 8 a.m. Cost for the event is $45. To register, contact Assistant Professor of Business Art Attema at (712) 722-6353 or attema@dordt.edu.
Saturday is full of activities, including a Kids Carnival featuring fun and games beginning at noon at the Outdoor Tennis Courts (Recreation Center in case of rain). At 1 p.m. the Defender football team takes on Midland University at Open Space Park. The Alumni Association will host a reception for the class of 1986 in the Campus Center at 4:30 p.m.
