Construction begins on Dordt College clock tower

May 24, 2011

Dordt College has begun construction of a 54-foot-tall clock tower that will stand in the center of campus to the north of the Campus Center Building. A clock tower has been part of Dordt’s campus master plan for several years. This project is the latest in a series of capital improvements that are the result of Dordt’s ongoing Vision 2020 capital campaign. Construction is expected to be completed before students return to the campus in August.

The clock tower was funded entirely by the generous financial donations of friends of Dordt College. Henry and Helen VanKlaveren of Modesto, Calif., are among the major contributors to this project. Henry VanKlaveren is the founder of Hollandia Nursery and co-chair of the Vision 2020 campaign.

During the summer the college will also be renovating several East Campus apartments, expanding the campus green spaces eastward toward Covenant Hall, and creating additional parking on the east side of campus.
