Dordt College Jazz Band to perform April 19

The Dordt College Jazz Band will be performing Tuesday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.

The jazz ensemble will perform a samba by Michael Philip Mossman, featuring students Darin Lammers, Jason Stuhrenberg, Peter Kuipers, Brandon Wilson, Jenn Roetman, and Caleb Buum. A ballad by George and Ira Gershwin will feature tenor player Brandon Wilson. A swing tune, Kid Charlemagne, by Steely Dan will feature Kristen Raygor on tenor saxophone. Rounding out the program is the Afro-Cuban tune Category 4 by Jeff Jarvis, featuring Landon Tillema on guitar.

Joining the Dordt Jazz Band for the second portion of the program is the South Dakota Jazz Orchestra, known as one of the most consistently outstanding big band jazz ensembles around. The South Dakota Jazz Orchestra is directed by Dr. Corliss Johnson.

The performance is free, with a freewill offering received to benefit music scholarships at Dordt College.

Dordt College has approximately 300 U.S. and international students participating in its music program, with opportunities to perform in four choral groups, two orchestras, and three bands. Music scholarships are available to qualified students.
