Dordt College News
January 16, 2003Dordt College recently purchased a home and property located directly south of the campus. The home had been owned by the Roger Evans family. It is currently being remodeled to serve as an alumni guesthouse. This multi-function Alumni Guesthouse will serve as an alumni center, a meeting and reception area for both campus departments and off-campus groups, and a guesthouse for campus visitors. Funding for the renovation work will be acquired through a spring alumni phonathon.
Judy Hagey, the alumni director, sees the alumni house as a means for alumni to organize mini-reunions with former roommates, reminisce and reconnect. Several guest rooms could also accommodate family groups, helping alumni introduce their children to a place that had an impact upon their lives. “The family-like relationships that students develop here have a lasting influence. Memories are made that last a lifetime,” she says.
The home will also provide a comfortable setting for meetings and receptions. Another special touch will be a memorabilia room — an alumni archive displaying items of interest from Dordt College’s past.
Work is currently underway on the guesthouse. When completed, Dordt College alumni will be able to reserve rooms with a simple call to the alumni office at 712-722-6022.
