Dordt students to present biology research

The Dordt College Biology Department is hosting a Senior Research Presentation Night on Wednesday April 21, at 5 p.m. in the Science and Technology Building Lecture Hall S108. The public is welcome to attend.
The schedule of presentations is as follows:
- At 5 p.m. Brandon DeVries (Granger, WA) will present “Using synthetic peptides to investigate the binding of canine parvovirus to its receptor”
- At 5:15 p.m. Traci Hoogland (Maurice, IA) will present “Methanogen populations in grass vs. corn fed cattle”
- At 5:30 p.m. Danielle Mellema (Willmar, MN) will present “Allelopathic properties of corylus”
- At 5:45 p.m. Josh Bowers (Peyton, CO) will present “Culturing canine parvovirus in vitro: detection of mutations”
- At 6:05 p.m. David Christensen (Waconia, MN) will present “The effects of ozone upon E. coli O157:H7 growth on meat samples as compared to sodium hypochlorite”
- At 6:25 p.m. Ben Christians (Sioux Center) will present “Cortisol and stress in college students: a longitudinal study”
- At 6:45 p.m. Nathaniel Cordel (Sioux Center) will present “Using oral fluids to detect porcine respiratory and reproductive syndrome virus”
- At 7:20 p.m. Adam De Ruyter (Sioux Center) will present “Population, habitat use and diet of bald eagles wintering in Sioux County, Iowa”
- At 7:40 p.m. Brittany De Ruyter (Sioux Center) will present “Using microsatellite analysis to study genetic diversity of butterfly milkweed (asclepias tuberosa) in Iowa native prairies”
- At 8 p.m. Troy Ellens (Lacombe, AB) will present “Investigating the effects of an industrial byproduct on the growth of corn”
- At 8:20 p.m. Theo Mobach (Sherwood Park, AB) will present “Quorum quenching properties of cyanobacteria”
- At 8:40 p.m. Michael Olthoff (Sioux Center, IA) will present “Ecological impacts of mosquito larvicides on the guppy poecilia reticulate”
- At 9 p.m. Cherylyn Vande Glind (Lacombe, AB) will present “The effects of increased levels of homocysteine on neural tube development in xenopus laevis”
- At 9:20 p.m. Amy Walker (Vista, CA) will present “Palynology of a coal seam in Marion County, IA”
