Chorale, Women's Chorus, Kantorei performance February 26

Choir Concert

The Dordt College Chorale, Women’s Chorus, and Kantorei will present a concert Friday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.

“Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs” will be the focus of the Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Benjamin Kornelis. Their portion of the program includes Psalm settings by René Clausen and Felix Mendelssohn; hymn arrangements by F. Melius Christiansen and René Clausen; and spirituals arranged by Jester Hairston and William Dawson.

The Kantorei will present Franz Josef Haydn’s “Missa brevis St. Joannis de Deo” (Little Organ Mass) and the vocal jazz composition “Voice Dance” by Greg Jasperse. Accompanying the group will be organist Bradley Miedema and string players Lisa Miedema, Jennifer Frens, and Catherine Tien.

“The Snow” by Edward Elgar; “The Birds” by Canadian Eleanor Daley; and “Lift Thine Eyes” by Mendelssohn are on the Women’s Chorus portion of the program. The chorus is directed by Pam De Haan, and will be accompanied by Lisa Miedema and Rebecca De Haan on violin.

The concert is free, with a freewill offering being received to benefit music scholarships at Dordt College.
