April 17, 2009
Dordt College junior Susan Le Mahieu will present a clarinet recital at the B.J. Haan Auditorium in Sioux Center on Friday, April 24, at 3 p.m. The public is welcome to attend the recital and a reception following the performance.
Joining Le Mahieu in the recital will be Helen Van Beek on the piano, and Heather Hooyer on the violin.
Le Mahieu is the daughter of Keith and Lauren Le Mahieu, Frankfort, IL. She is majoring in choral/instrumental music education (K-12) and minoring in clarinet performance. Her clarinet instructor at Dordt is Dr. Karen De Mol.
She is a 2008 winner of the Cherokee Young Artist Concerto Competition, performed with the Wheaton Municipal Band, plays with the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra, and is a principal player in the Dordt College Concert Band, as well as a music scholarship recipient.
Le Mahieu’s program includes Mozart’s “Clarinet Concerto in A Major, K. 622”; Bernstein’s “Sonata for Clarinet and Piano”; Milhaud’s “Suite for Violin, Clarinet, and Piano”; and Peter Schickele’s “Serenade for Three”.
More than students participate in the music program at Dordt, with opportunities to perform in four choral groups, two orchestras, and three bands. Music scholarships are available to qualified students.
