Olson, Rockerville to perform Feb. 24

Scott Olson, a Dordt College trumpet instructor and director of the Dordt Jazz Band, will perform at the college’s B.J. Haan Auditorium on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 7:30 p.m.

Also on the program is Olson’s group, Rockerville. Members of Rockerville include Ted and Jennifer Powell, vocals; Guy Gullickson, guitar; Todd Carr, bass; Dr. Darin Wadley, percussion; Dr. Rolf Olson and Kevin McLouth, trumpet; Vance Shoemaker, trombone; Steve LaFave, alto sax; Kim Olson, baritone sax; and Michael Drotzmann, guest pianist.

Olson performs as principal trumpet of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra and second trumpet of the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra. As a jazz musician, he performs with the South Dakota Jazz Orchestra and the Sioux Falls Big Band. He is a graduate of South Dakota State University.

The first portion of Tuesday night’s program features Olson on the trumpet, accompanied by organist Dr. Sean Vogt. Selections include “The Lord’s Prayer,” “Fantasia in C,” “The Peace May Be Exchanged,” “Concerto En Re,” and Alexandre Guilmant’s “Sonata No. 1.”

Following a brief intermission, Rockerville will be on stage, with selections including “Feels So Good,” “Cold As Ice Rhapsody,” “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy,” “Penny Lane,” “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me,” “Superstition,” “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You,” “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is,” and “Make Me Smile.”

This concert is free and open to the public, sponsored by the Dordt College Music Department.
