Dordt College Art Show and Sale at Centre Mall

December 1, 2008

Art Sale

One of a kind original art by Dordt College art students will be available for purchase and viewing at the Centre Mall in Sioux Center from Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 4-6, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., ending on Saturday at 5 p.m.

This exhibit is designed to give area residents the opportunity to purchase original art and ceramics in a wide range of mediums including two dimensional works in drawing, painting, original prints in relief woodcuts, etching, and lithography. Original photography in traditional negative base; black and white silver prints; and digital color prints will also be available for purchase.

Dordt College art students take a variety of fine art studio courses, and many learn wheel-thrown and hand-built ceramic work, creating pieces in a wide range of glazes and lusters that are perfect for a one of a kind Christmas gift. Jacob Van Wyk, longtime professor of art and a ceramics instructor at Dordt, will have several wheel thrown works on display for purchase.

This fourth biennial art show by Dordt students and instructors has become a highly anticipated event by the community. Over 100 works of art were sold during each of the past two exhibit sales.

This year’s show and sale was organized by Professor Matt Drissell and provides a hands on display and sales experience for Introductory Painting students (who mount the exhibit) and 35 students in Twentieth Century Art History (who will handle all sales for the three-day event). The exhibit will be located near the west end of the mall, close to Casey’s Bakery.

Artwork that is purchased can be taken at the time of sale. Purchases can be made with cash or checks, but students will be unable to accept credit cards.
