Opera Omaha performance in Sioux Center Nov. 20

November 13, 2008

Dordt College will host Opera Omaha’s “Voices in the Community” on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.

Four professional vocalists will participate in the performance. Opera Omaha Resident Artists are Sarah Lawrence, Joe Palarca, Darren Perry and Tricia Van Ee, who graduated from Dordt with a degree in vocal performance in 2002.

Opera Omaha’s Community Programs Coordinator, Tara Cowherd, graduated from Dordt College in 1999 with degrees in music and business. Cowherd will participate in the program, along with Resident Music Director J. Gawf and William Shomos, Director of Opera at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

Community performances provide a framework for experiencing the interaction of words and music – the essence of opera – with famous solos and ensembles and insightful narration. More than 30 Voices in Community performances are scheduled in Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota this fall.

This program is sponsored by the Dordt College Music Department and ConAgra Foods. It is free and open to the public.
