Dordt Resident Life staff preparing for upcoming year
June 25, 2008
Dorm halls may be vacant now, but on opening day the Dordt College resident life staff will be ready and eager to serve the influx of 2008-09 students.
Robert Taylor will serve as interim director of resident life for the upcoming year, providing oversight to two professional learning community area coordinators and 22 resident assistants (upperclass students). Taylor has been a resident director at the college since 1999, when he graduated from Dordt with a B.A. in theology. Taylor also has a small business, Taylor’d Drums (custom-built drums), and is a co-founder of Passenger Productions, a digital media production company based in Sioux Falls. Taylor will provide leadership in building and strengthening partnerships with faculty and staff and will focus efforts on student development and academic success. Taylor will also supervise and train the professional resident life staff, oversee student housing, and provide direction in student issues.
Newly hired as Learning Community Area Coordinators are Sita Riblet and Chris DeJong. As such, each will maintain general operation of two residence halls; supervise, train and evaluate student staff; encourage development of student leaders; and monitor and promote academic success while partnering with faculty and staff.
Sita Riblet earned a psychology degree at Dordt College in 2003 and a Master of Arts in Christian Leadership from Sioux Falls Seminary in 2007. She has been employed as a residence hall director and coordinator of adult learning and career services at Augustana College and interned in the student development office at the University of Sioux Falls.
Chris DeJong earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Business Administration and Religion at Northwestern College (Orange City) in 2002 and a M.A. in Higher Education at Geneva College in 2004. He was previously employed as a Behavior Program Facilitator and Student Support Center Supervisor for the Sioux Falls Public School District. He has also been a fourth grade summer school teacher and substitute teacher for the Sioux Falls Public Schools. Prior to his work in Sioux Falls, Chris served as a Residence Hall Director at Baylor University and a graduate assistant to Student Activities and the Pisgah Program (an experiential education program) at Geneva College.
