Dordt Alumnus Gets Schwarzenegger Appointment

Dordt College alumnus from the class of 1982 Jay Alan Wierenga has been appointed communications director for the California Conservation Corps (CCC).

"I am honored and privileged to serve in Governor Schwarzenegger's administration," said Wierenga. "Working with the CCC, and the talented young people they employ, will be an important opportunity to make a difference in sustaining and improving California's environment."

Most recently, Wierenga was a news anchor and talk host for Newstalk 1530 KFBK Sacramento since 2003. Previously, he was the news anchor for KTXL-TV Fox 40 in Sacramento from 2000 to 2003. Prior to that, he held numerous other television positions including anchor and reporter for KPHO-TV CBS5 in Phoenix, Arizona and anchor for WSET-TV in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he was also managing editor. Wierenga is a member of the Stanford Home for Children Advisory Board and former board member for Big Brothers and Big Sisters in Sacramento.
