St. Olaf concert at Dordt College April 14

April 5, 2007

“Rejoice in the Lamb,” will be presented by the St. Olaf College Cantorei on Saturday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Dordt College’s B.J. Haan Auditorium.

The St. Olaf Cantorei includes both instrumentalists and singers, and is known for creative programming that blends the St. Olaf choral tradition with instrumental color. The ensemble is uniquely honed and focused to lead worship and provide a distinctive musical and spiritual experience.

Conducted by John Ferguson, the 87-person cantorei will present anthems and hymns from Benjamin Britten's “Festival Cantata” that focus on the Easter story and the nature of the risen Christ, the Sacrificial Lamb, the Peacemaker, and the Promised One.

Dr. Ferguson is also a renowned organist and arranger, and will perform on Dordt’s Casavant organ during the concert.

The ensemble will be accompanied by Charles Gray, professor of music at St. Olaf College (violin, viola and chamber music). Gray has performed with the Casella String Quartet, the Rochester (NY) Philharmonic, the Grand Rapids (MI) Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, and The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, as well as being a solo recitalist on National Public Radio, at music festivals, and at national music conventions.

All are invited to this free guest performance, hosted by the Dordt College Music Department.
