Dordt College band, orchestra performance March 30

The Dordt College Concert Band and Chamber Orchestra will conclude their spring tour to the Pacific Northwest and Canada with a concert at the B.J. Haan Auditorium, Sioux Center, on Friday, March 30, at 7:30 p.m.

The 26-member chamber orchestra will perform works by Handel, Britten, Corigliano and a work for full orchestra by Bizet. Viola soloist Connie DuMez will be featured in “Concerto No. 1” by Karl Stamitz.


The 50-member concert band will perform “Overture to ‘Colas Breugnon’” by Kabalevsky and the “Finale from Shostakovich’s ‘Fifth Symphony’” as well as several sacred selections, marches, and lighter selections. Trumpet soloist Tim Vande Griend will be featured in “Sonata for Trumpet” by Kent Kennan.

Concert Band

Admission to the concert is free, with a free-will donation being received to help defray tour expenses. The band and orchestra traveled to South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and Alberta on their spring tour.
