Campus- Community, Jazz Bands to perform March 9

Campus Community Band

The Dordt College Jazz Band and Dordt’s Campus-Community Band will present a concert Friday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.

The 53 members of the Campus-Community Band will present five selections under the direction of Dr. Henry Duitman. Their program includes “Flashing Winds” by Jan Van der Roost; “If Thou Be Near” by J.S. Bach; “Held Still in the Quick of Grace” by Jack Stamp; “They Hung Their Harps in the Willows” by W. Francis McBeth, and “A Celebration of Spirituals” arranged by Warren Barker.

The Dordt College Jazz Band, directed by Norman Gaines, will present Big Band tunes, including “Strike Up the Band” by Gershwin; “You’re Nobody ‘Til Somebody Loves You” by Morgan (vocal soloist Becky Lancaster); “City Dock” by Ragsdale (trombone soloist Jander Talen and tenor sax soloist Steve Oswald); “Mr. Lucky” by Mancini; and “Smack Dab In the Middle” by Calhoun (trumpet soloist Matt Koelewyn).

The concert is free, with a freewill offering received to benefit music scholarships at Dordt College.
