Dordt, Northwestern student exhibit at Dordt gallery

December 5, 2006

Juried Art Exhibition

The annual juried art exhibition featuring both Northwestern and Dordt College student art will be featured at Dordt College’s Campus Center Art Gallery Tuesday, Dec. 5, through Sunday, Jan. 7. The Campus Center Art Gallery is free and open every day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Artwork in the show encompasses a wide variety of mediums, and all exhibits are work students created in the course of their current studies.

A reception for the community and artists represented in the show will be Thursday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. Each student juror will choose one work to discuss and describe their process of decision making. The Dordt College jury that selected favorite works by Northwestern art students consists of Shawn Voss, Diane Feucht, and Rachel Clemens. A jury of Northwestern students will do the same for Dordt College artwork.

Dordt students who determined the exhibit layout were Mallory McConnell and Jessica Braunschweig. Dordt students who helped with documentation of the show were Joe Van Walbeek and Aaron Huisman. Dordt students who assisted with hanging the show were Justin Vonk, Matt Berkenpas, Joanna Esselink and Karyn Konynenbelt. Northwestern students worked cooperatively with these students in all areas of the show.

“This is an opportunity for students to collaborate and also get to know fellow art students from Northwestern College,” said Susan Van Geest, professor of art at Dordt College. Van Geest said the shared annual show helps students learn the processes involved in juried exhibits, including the difficult decisions involved.
