NC/DC Extreme

Dordt College, in conjunction with Northwestern College (Orange City, Iowa) is proud to announce the third annual NC/DC Extreme. Four students from each college have been selected by their peers to compete against each other ‘American Idol’ style for a $500 prize. The two week process begins on Saturday, Nov. 11, at Dordt College’s B.J. Haan Auditorium and concludes at Northwestern College’s Bultman Center on Saturday, Nov. 18. Contestants will be performing from 9:30-11:30 p.m.

Dordt semi-finalists are: Joelle Reizebos (Sioux Center, IA), Rebekah Oudman (Demotte, IN), Jon Shaffstall (West Milford, NJ), and Troy Ellens (Fort Assiniboine, AB). Northwestern semi-finalists are: Matt De Glopper, Christel De Waard, Sophie Eicher and Amy Vander Holt.

Dordt College is currently undefeated after winning each of the past two competitions. Previous winners were Justin Vande Kerk (Hull, IA) in 2004 and Cassandra Lokker (Baldwin, WI) in 2005. Two judges, one from each college, critique the performances and offer suggestions for improvement. Students from each campus vote electronically as to which contestants advance and which contestants are eliminated.

“This year, we are trying to give the students as much input as possible with a new live vote at the last performance,” stated Megan Haan, Dordt’s student activities committee co-leader.

Dordt College had over 20 students try out for the event, with only 10 moving on to the first round. These 10 students then performed for the Dordt College community, followed by electronic voting for the four contestants they want to represent Dordt in the competition with Northwestern.

An estimated 1,000 students will attend the show to support their singers. The rivalry between these two Christian colleges continues as the third annual NC/DC Extreme event quickly approaches. For more info, go to or
