Public farm bill hearing to be held at Dordt College

July 24, 2006

Iowa Congressman Steve King will host a public farm bill Congressional field hearing for Iowa farmers at Dordt College in Sioux Center, on Monday, July 31, at 8:30 a.m. in the Campus Center at Dordt College in Sioux Center.

Accompanying King will be members of the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Livestock and Horticulture, who will discuss federal farm policy with area farmers.

KDCR will be airing the hearing, beginning at 8:15 that morning. John Slegers will anchor the broadcast, with commentary being provided by Dordt Ag Faculty.

"I hope farmers in western Iowa will take advantage of the unique opportunity to participate and lend their expertise to federal ag policy as it is shaped by Congressional agriculture leaders,” said King. “Since hearings began for the 2007 Farm Bill, my goal has been to make sure Iowa’s farmers have a voice at the negotiating table."

King is a Member of the House Agriculture Committee and the Rural Caucus.
