Free concert, cheesecake Saturday night

April 11, 2006

The sonic piano-scapes of Calvin Jones will be presented in concert on Saturday, April 15, 7 p.m. at Dordt College’s B.J. Haan Auditorium in Sioux Center.

Jones has won international acclaim with his four releases “Through High Places,” “Coming Home,” “Uncharted Waters” and “Acoustic Passion.” His many credits include television and film soundtracks for such clients as McDonalds, Promise Keepers, Life Athletes, ATS Telecommunications, and Hallmark.

Masterfully, Jone’s performance paints musical pictures of a sunrise in the Rockies, the alpine flowers of the Cascades, the rushing whitewater of Glacier National Park, sunsets in the Ozarks and other breathtaking scenes. Aggressively contemplative, Jones is very physical with his instrument. Highly accessible, Jones’ music incorporates classical and popular themes and his performances seem to strip away the action of the piano, caressing the strings. In the words of one critic, “If brilliant piano performance could be likened to a painting, Calvin Jones routinely executes a ‘musical Mona Lisa.’”

Jones will be performing favorites from his four internationally released recordings, as well as new material slated for an upcoming album. This is a rare opportunity to see Calvin Jones for free, sponsored by Dordt’s Student Activities Committee. Don’t miss it!

Complementary cheesecake will be served following the concert for all who attend.
